tuna and buying Jewish brands

Whats the deal with buying regular canned tuna with an OU. How come you can buy salmon thats OU but with tuna you have to get the Jewish brands. Is there a machlokes about it, or do all rabbis hold that tuna has to be bishul (thats what the problem with reg. tuna is??)

Not all Rabbonim hold that you have to buy only a Jewish brand. I think it's a chumra. We eat OU tuna.

well if all rabbonim held that you have to buy a jewish brand, then there wouldn't be tuna with and OU, now would there? 8)

BTW, according to OU'ss website, all of their Pesach runs use both a Mashgiach Tmidi and are Bishul Yisroel (although they don't hold that it's necessary in general).

Tuna is an extremely problematic product, with potentially serious kashrus issues aside from the bishul yisroel concerns. It is something which needs the most scrupulous hechsher. We personally use only one brand (with our community's hechsher) and when it's not available do without.
