some rabbanim "specialize"- someone with fertility issues won't go to the neighborhood posek. they will go to someone who is renowned for dealing with these particular issues. some rabbanim deal with sholom bayis, with gittin, with agunos, with momonos. sometimes it is worthwhile to search someone out who has experience in certain matters. and no- I am not talking about psak shopping. I ask 1 rav all my questions.

If I need a specialist I ask my LOR who to go to for halacha and my mashpia for shalom bayis and chinuch. I now have someone specific for these 2 issues..

I respect people who ask the Rav about almost any issue they may have. Obviously it makes no sense to ask a Rav what to make for supper but it does make sense to ask him about things you need guidance in because a proper Rav has a special wisdom that we are supposed to follow according to the Torah.
