Hello all,

I would love to hear from you the songs or little ditties you share with your kids - the ones you've made up or heard from others.

Here's 2 of mine that both my kids love

Based on the 5 little pigs - that you usually do with the toes on the feet and on the last verse you run your finger up and tickle them under the arm.

Girl Version

One little girl went to Seminary,
One little girl stayed home
One little girl bake challo
One little girl gave tzedoko
And one little girl danced round and round the kallah!!

Boy version

One little boy went to yeshiva,
one little boy stayed home
One little boy learnt torah
One little boy learnt mishna
And one little boy danced round and round on simchas torah!!

2. Based on the song of three blind Mice

3 times a day,
H' makes us pray
Shacharis is the morning tune,
Mincha in the afternoon
Maariv by the light of the moon
3 times a day, 3 times a day.

Looking forward to hearing from you,
Yehudis

My DH does this in many situations just to make me laugh! Smile

For example, the chess pieces are rabbi, rebbetzin, chazzan (an extra, one from the shul you'd NEVER set foot in), gabbai (ditto), board president (ditto), and two pawns short of a minyan! Someone get on the phone!!

Pat-a-cake, Pat-a-cake
Baker's man
Bake me a matza as fast as you can
Roll it, and prick it, and mark it with an S
And put it in the oven for 18 minutes or less.

(We only use that one one week a year...)

I don't kosher up rhymes. if I don't approve of the original, I don't use it.
though I like a book my mother got for my son, with a rhyme about making challahs. I would quote it, but I feel strange putting the entire text of the book online.

it's called "braid the challahs," if you're interested.

I haven't "sanitized" rhymes or Jewishized them, but I have made a couple of changes. With my older kid, when I sang rock-a-bye baby, instead of "down will come baby, cradle and all," I sang, "safe will be baby, cradle and all." I just didn't enjoy singing about a baby falling out of a tree because his parents were idiots and stuck a cradle on top of a tree.

With This Little Piggy, I changed the roast beef every time I did it, just to keep things interesting. I cook different things all the time, so I figured my kid could hear about a pig with a varied diet. Sometimes he ate tofu, sometimes he ate pad thai, sometime he ate broccoli or whatever.

I was confused about the s, as well.
Other possibilities:

Roll it and prick it and don't make a mess
Roll it and prick it and prepare to ess (or fress)
Roll it and prick it and soon you will bless
Roll it and prick it and try not to stress

Maybe the S is for Shmurah? Seder? Maybe her child's name starts with an S? Idk. I was wondering too.

Then there's "I have a mezuza ..." by Uncle Moishy, and plenty more by him and SimchaMan and 613 Torah Avenue.

We do this little berele..

This little berele went to Yeshiva,
this little berele stayed home,
this little berele had cholent,
and this little berele had none,
this little berele went wee wee wee
all the way home.

Also, there are these like:

I ran around the corner
and I ran around the block
and I ran right into a bakery shop
and I looked up high,y'know what I saw?
Right, a mezuzah hanging on that door,
So I stood up proud and I shouted out loud,
Hey I am in a Mezuzah crowd
We love mezuzah, kiss kiss

tune: this old man
This old man got on a bus,
he needed a seat from one of us,
so I got up as you can expect
an older person I respect!

Perhaps the S is for shmurah...

Yes, "s" is for shmura. But DS#2 is Shai, so it works that way too.
