What's the difference if you make Challah with 3, 4,5, or 6 strands? Does it look better if you have more? It is considered nicer? Does anyone do more than 6 strands?

I use six.

Two reasons:
~ To recall the challos from the Beis Hamikdash,
~ Because it looks nice!

6 is the prettiest and it builds up to a nice hump in the middle.

From Shamash.org: With respect to the braiding, there are several reasons. The three braids are symbolic of the commands to observe Shabbat that appear in the Ten Commandnments One braid represents the word "Zachor" - "Remember." A second braid represents the word "Shamor" - "Guard." The third braid is for "b'Dibbur Echad" - that these commands of "Remember" and "Guard" were said by G-d simultaneously and as one unit.

My standard is a 4 strand braid.

I recently saw a 5 strand method what leaves a spiral pattern on the top which is gorgeous.

I recently started doing 4 but I'd love to learn how to do 6 strands. I know there is a diagram in the Spice and Spirit cookbook but I don't have it.

Just googled the 5-strand challah - looks cool!
