My Grandmother made something called paper kugel. It was a dough that she pulled until it was paper thin, large enough to cover the tablecloth, she then spread shmaltz and folded/rolled it up, wrapped it in foil (?) and put it in the chulent. Has anyone else heard of this, or even have the recipe? Not that I would make it --- it was labor intensive. But I would love to have the recipe or even what the proper name for this is.

sounds like it to me too, and you can buy them frozen, ready rolled up, in the kosher grocery stores.

Onion kugel is made that way too, but baked while greasing it over every few minutes.

But that is made with shmearing tons of fried onions, not just shmaltz.
But it is an hungarian/romanian food, I think.
