Brachad, no, I don't know you. Just curious -- what's it like for an American to be married to a Russian Jew? Was it a cultural shock, especially with your in-laws?

well, my husband came here when he was 13, so he was here quite a while before we married. Also, he lived in a dorm for a while - so he was used to Americans. so no real culture shock, though I am impressed with how he is able to do so many things I wouldn't expect regular American bochurim to do - things like sewing!
No major culture shock - he doesn't mind if I don't cook Russian-style foods, as I said - he lived in a yeshiva dorm, so he's also used to the food here!
In-laws...well...that's another story. Smile they speak english but they're not frum. My father-in-law (the in-laws are divorced) always speaks to my husband in Russian. When we visit him (which isn't often b/c they live far away), I just get a little bored.
Otherwise, we're good B"H!. Actually great. Smile

No, I'm not in CH. My husband is more "yeshivish" than "chasidish."
He doesn't really speak to my son in Russian because he feels it's not a language we'd use much. But his mother wants him to, so he may a little. And I speak to the baby in Yiddish a little, which my husband doesn't understand. Maybe we should become a trilingual family!

Nu, we need a "shidduchim" thread--in English or "Po-Russki (boy is it hard for me to type Russian phonetically, I keep wanting to switch "y" and "u" and "r" and "p")! " If we find someone for her, just how far would she go to meet someone? Israel? NY? Out of town? Or would someone there be better?
