On a different thread, it was metioned that both safflower and sunflower oils are from seeds and thus a potential allergen. While I do not dispute that the poster of that comment may have had a reacton to both oils, safflower oil is not a seed. Rather, it is a thistle or herb. It can be well substituted for sunflower oil as it has many of the same properties and cooking/baking characteristics, but they are not the same oil.

safflower is listed as safflower seed oil many times. My son reacts badly to most seeds, He is highly allergic to sesame, sunflower, and safflower give him horrible reactions too.
