Your best bread machine challah (dough) recipe

I have a bread machine that takes 5 cups of flour at most, so I can't use any of the regular challah dough recipes. Please share some good challah dough recipes that worked for you with a bread machine (and also include how many loaves it makes and how long/at what temp to bake them). I am looking for either ww or white (I have an awesome ww recipe but I've been making it for months now and we could use some change).

Mine's a very simple recipe adapted from Taste of Shabbos

1 1/3 c. water
1/4 c. oil
5 c. flour sifted (I use half ww, half white)
1/4 c. sugar
tsp. salt
scant tablespoon yeast.

It makes two bigger loaves, or 3 smaller ones. BAke at 350 for 25 - 40 min. depending on how big the loaves.

Nope, no egg. It's not an overly sweet or fancy recipe, but we all like it and my guests seem to also Smile

Modified from the booklet that came with my bread machine
1/2 cup strong whole wheat flour
4.5 cups very strong white flour
1 tsp breadmachine yeast
3 tbsp gluten flour (optional--it really helps for getting very nice texture)
2-3 tbsp sugar
2 oz parve margarine
1/2 teasp salt
2eggs and enough water combined to make 350cc

This is not sweet at all. Dough yields either 1 large or 2 medium (I usually do pull-aparts not braided).

Here is mine:

1 1/4 cup hot (tap) water
1/2 cup oil
5 egg yolks
2/3 cup sugar
5 1/2 cup flour
1 pkg of dry yeast

I put it on the dough cycle in the bread machine. I form it into loaves or I make pull apart challah. I only let it rise about 30 minutes. Bake at 350 for 25 minutes.
It yields about 3 medium challahs or 2 large challahs

My family likes like this recipe. I've never actually done it on the bread machine myself, but my sister does all the time. I usually multiply it by 4 and make it with 5 lbs of flour. It should give you 2 decent sized challahs.

2 tsp. yeast
1/3 c. sugar
3/4 c. water
1/3 c. oil
2 eggs
1 1/2 tsp. salt
3 2/3 c. flour

this is mine

1 3/4 cup water
1/2 cup oil
2 eggs
1 1/2 tbs kosher salt
6 cups flour
1/4 cup sugar
1 or 1 1/2 tbs yeast

I think my machine says it only does 5 cups but I found that it can do six and I do a double batch of dough and then I can take challah with a brocha.

I have made this one in the bread machine for quite a few years. We used to get enough challah from one batch but lately I have been doing 2 batches. this week, I tried going 1 1/2 times the recipe.

From one batch, you can get 2 decent sized challahs.

1 cup water
1/2 cup oil
1/2 cup sugar
2.5 tsp salt
2 tsp honey
2 eggs
4 cups flour
2 1/4 tsp yeast

Put in bread machine in above order. Put on dough cycle. I usually keep it in for longer. Shape, let rise again, egg wash, bake for about half an hour at 350.

I am new here, but I thought I would add my recipe. My family loves it, even my non-Jewish friends that have had it, beg me to make it for their families! Here it is

3 cups flour
1 egg
3 tbls parve margarine
6 tbls sugar
1 cup water
1/2 teaspoon salt

I put it in the machine on the dough cycle and take it out when it is done. I shape it or braid it. Let it rise and then bake it at 325 until done.

Here's mine, it's great to work with. No need to add more flour. I'm working with it to go whole wheat..
1 cup plain soy milk
3 extralarge eggs
1/3 cup oil
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 Tbsp salt
5ish cups white flour
2 1/2 Tbsp yeast

Put it on the dough cycle. Mine is 2 hours, then I let it rise another hour or so, till it's climbing out the top. If I'm busy, I punch it down in the machine and let it rise again.
Braid (I get 2 nice sized loaves), let rise 1 hour, covered with towel. Egg. Bake on parchment paper on pan about 20 min. at 350.

Tip: If your bottoms are too brown, use 2 pans, one on top of the other, or the fancy insulated ones.

I read some where that just like there are 7 days in the week, and Shabbos is the culmination of them all, so we use 7 ingredients in Challah. (water, egg, oil, salt, sugar, flour, yeast).

Here's the recipe I have been using the last few months (I found this recipe online at: http://cookeatshare.com/recipe.....h-603). Every time I make it, it comes out great.

1.5 cups water
1 tsp. salt
5 egg yolks
1/3 cup oil
5ish cups flour
1/2 cup sugar
1 tbsp. yeast

8g dried yeast
500g strong bread flour
60g sugar
10g salt
60 - 65ml sunflower oil
1 egg
200-210 ml warm water (half boiling, half cold)

Dough setting in bread machine.

Knead quickly, plait, and leave to rise for 1hr.

Oven 160 degrees until they look ready.

NB can double all the ingredients to make a bigger batch - works really well.

It's 7 cups though.
