You know, like boys have one about kippa and tsitsis, there must be songs for girls about sleeves and skirts and stuff?
If you have one in French it's ideal, if not give me ideas so I write one!

Thanks!

Oy Seraph do they still sing it?
In my day the second part was

Tznius, don't show your knee-es
Don't show your shoulders, or elbows or thighs

You have to explain also that it is sung to the John Philip Sousa marching song.

Can't think of words right now, but make it on "savez vous plantez les choux". Then you can mimic as you go too!
Very Happy

If I get some great inspiration I'll pm you it.

Also check with your local chabad school. They can't not have a anything!

Good idea Natmichal!!!

I decided DD needed one when I caught her taking her skirt's ribbons in her hand, singing the tsitsit song and making the tsitsit bracha shock LOL LOL

Je suis une princesse tsniout,
A la mode, à la mode,
Je suis une princesse tsniout,
A la mode de chez nous.

Ma jupe arrive aux genoux,
A la mode, à la mode,
Ma jupe arrive aux genoux,
A la mode de chez nous.

Et mes manches arrivent aux coudes,
A la mode, à la mode,
Et mes manches arrivent aux coudes,
A la mode de chez nous.

Je ne découvre pas sous l'cou,
A la mode, à la mode,
Je ne découvre pas sous l'cou,
A la mode de chez nous.

Ok, rhymes not perfect lol
who can help?

Super Ruchel!!!

It doesn't rhyme more than that in the original either... So it's fine!
I'd write: "et mon cou est bien couvert" or "je ne decouvre pas le cou /sous l'cou " and not "et mon haut arrive au cou". I don't know why, but I think you understand it better this way, even though technically what you wrote is right (ie you don't have to cover the neck but rather it has to cover till the neck)

nothing about wearing pants/slits/socks ? or is it enough for the age group you need?

I must say I never even thought of writing a song for dd...

Je ne découvre pas sous l'cou is great!

Pants could be included, although she never wore them so maybe it's a non issue to her and it's covered (lol) by the skirt length? Good question.

Socks I don't "do", slits I wear only under the knee but I don't know if she's old enough to understand...

dd stopped wearing pants at age 2.5 (he b-day is mid-season so I just didn't buy pants for the season when she turned 3) and it never an issue, since we lived in a yishuv where it was not an issue for most of the girls. Then we moved in a mixed place and she had trouble understanding how certain girls could be older than she was since they were wearing pants...
Just a though since your daughter sees other girls around her...

True. In her school she sees only skirts except a few 18 months old in pants, but in the neighbourhood or family or friends etc there are pants.

Hi, everybody. New member here. I know I'm coming late to this forum but I discovered it only because I have something to contribute to the topic of this song in particular.

I can't believe nobody knows more than the fifth through eighth lines of the melody!

FYI, the original march (The Colonel Bogey March) was published by Lt. F.J. Ricketts in 1914 under the pseudonym of Kenneth Alford. The countermarch for the 1957 film The Bridge on the River Kwai was written by Malcolm Arnold. So in either case, nothing to do with Sousa unless his band also played it.

If anyone knows further lyrics, please forward. I want to assign due credit for more than just the four lines that most of us remember.

I would post my entire two-page version if I knew how to use the attachments feature in replying.

Regards,
Choirmistress
