I had my baby's one year appointment today and she is now 14p 14 oz and 25in (she was born at 6.5)she fell off her curve she is under the normal one. So now my Dr feels that there might be an issue he has been feeling on and off about it for a long time. Genetically she can just be a peanut bec me and hubby are small. but we have to make sure that is the reason and not something else. The first step is gonna be going to a GI and after to go to a edocnalgist (sp) to check her hormones. I am really hopping there is nothing wrong but I am so worried my whole pregnancy with tova all I heard she is not gaining well since she was born most times my dr was not to happy with her weight so now we have to see whats going on .

And after I was asking about why she is always so congested I don't know her not with a stuffed nose and she has a very open mouth which is mostly from low muscle tone but her therapist said I should check her adnionds and he said her tonsils are big so I am gona take her to a ENT too
just hoping everything goes well now and it all turns out to be normal
I also need good ideas for food for her and I think I am gona start a food diary

Hugs and Hatzlacha!
Many of us here have gone through similar routes and we can relate.
Hopefully after all the appointments to specialists and all the tests, the results with be that you little Zahava is just fine. BEH.

As far as food is concerned, see if you can drizzle olive oil over each of her dishes before you serve them to her.
Hug

We did all the tests - urine, blood, stool and sweat. All came back fine. Our pediatrician was worried that our baby wasn't gaining well but seriously the problems were more from diet. He was on materna and then it started making him have diahrrea at 8 months old or so. We tried soy formula which irritated him as well and also tried the sensitive formula. Nothing was great so we quickly eased him into solids as his main nutrition. At 12 months, he went off formula altogether. There was a big difference in calories consumed from the only formula diet to the solids diet. He was so fattened before from the formula and then he lost all that and became a much skinnier baby. He was never too skinny though. So he lost his baby fat earlier, so what? We think the dairy products also contributed to many upper respiratory infections. He was off dairy for a while.

We even travelled to an expert pediatrician that said he was doing fine and that he may just be on the smaller side like both his parents. His development is fine now. He walked a little on the late side but is running now and his fine motor skills are great. My dh had the same respiratory problems as a baby and he outgrew them.

Basically, don't worry too much like we did. It can make you crazy with worry and guilt and there is no need. Most likely, B"EH, it is nothing and the tests and specialist doctors are there to rule everything out.

One of my babies were 14 pounds at a year and losing (mom weighs 95 lbs...) and we were also scared to death with celiac and stuff. We ended up dilling her up with prosobee formula for good, fat calories. She's 5 now, not big, but also not 14 pounds anymore...As soon as she started school, she somehow started putting on more weight!
Go figure!

I do not want to scare you but check if it is a heart defect. My baby was off the charts and constantly congested, at a 10 months he was diagnosed with a heart defect. Since his surgery he has put on tons of weight. He got virus and colds very easily as his immune system was down due to his condition.

1st of all I was 14 lbs. at a year old also, and now I am 250 lbs ( I am 30 with 4 kids K”H) so you never know what can happen. 2nd of all my mother was told the same thing about my brother “he is not gaining something is wrong with him”. The DR Insisted on doing some operation where they remove some bone to test for things, all the while my mother saying all my kids are small and there is nothing wrong with him. Well they did the operation (he is now 26 and has a scar for life) and you know what they found NOTHING! Stick with your intuition you are a good mother. You know your child best, not the Dr's.

my story is hard to believe, but it is true.
my DD was born 5 12, and at 9 months she stopped gaining.

the drs. sent us to the mayo clininc to do every test imaginable, including exploratory surgery.
I was petrified of that.
I told a friend, and she told me, why not try homeopathy?
so I called a homeopath and told him the story. he was on the phone with me for 4 hours (over time) he asked q's about hat she eats what she is afraid of, what my feelings were during pregnancy- the strangest q's.
at the end he tells me, your daughter is not gaining beacause she has a fear of men which is not allowing her to grow,.
I was skeptical (but recognized she did have the insane fear of men)
he gave me a remedy to give her.
within one week, she completly broke out in hives.
all over. I called the homeopath in a panic, and he started cheering on the phone!
the fear is all coming out he tells me!
I said whatever and that was that.
within 1 month, she gained 4 lbs, started crawling, gre 4 teeth and her hair started filling in.
I took her for a follow up at 10 months, (when the doc wanted to start all the tests) and he was shocked. weighed her 4 times on 4 differetn scales.
he asked me what I did, and I told him. he said he didn't believe that it was fear holding her growth back.
but he said, this child is no longer a failure to thrive and sent us on our way.

I imagine you must be really worried and I hope everything will turn out ok, my daugther also had a stage similar like yours but the doctor I went ( very good one) said that as long that she grows in height is not so much a cause of concern, but I thing is good you are making the tests only to rule out other things.

like bnm said, the sweat test rules out CF and it is a painless, 20-30 minute test where they smear a cream on the baby's arm, cover it with a special patch and plastic wrap, wait a little while then send it off to the lab. The waiting time is a week maybe, I forgot. It is ruling out a reason why there is failure to thrive.

My ds was also low tone and received PT on a monthly basis for a while. He's on target now after we worked hard on it.
