Tamiri, many real medical issues are overlooked unless they are so obvious as to punch you in the face.

Ruchel, a boy may be teased and that can hurt, but the assumption that therefore it's better to make him look like a girl and raise him as one because it makes no difference to the child, is an old idea that is disputed nowadays.

Thank you, Solo. Yes, I am aware that it is a medical term. Do you know which specialist she went to, was it a pedi endocronoligst or a pedi urologist?

It is a ped urologist you need first. Maybe later on an endo will be required, it all depends on what he has.

Thank you. I already have a referral to a urologist, and we will take it from there.

what is considered normal size for a baby and toddler. I'm afraid to click on those links in case there will be pics...so I don't know much abt this "condition" but I think my boys are pretty small compared with the few others I've seen getting diapered. what is considered normal? (and I know its obviously not a condition-like size or my dr would have said somthing...I'm more wondering if they will be on the smaller side their whole lives in this area) thanks.

You're afraid to look at photos of a body part in the medical context?

Somewhat. You're a mother and if your kid has a medical issue, researching it, even if it's about their p@nis, should be something that as a mother you could do.

Do you think someone can tell you what an average size is?

The only person that can really give you an accurate answer is your doctor. Looking at pictures won't really help you in determining average size, although many articles do tell you approximate measurements. But in either case, there isn't really a 'normal'. Everyone is different. Ask you doctor if you should be concerned.

Different amother here.
I also don't want to read the articles. Can someone quote the article regarding the "normal" approximate measurements?

Check out wikipedia for the full information.
Regarding averages and statistics, most people fall into the average range. Some are unusually large and some are on the smaller end. No matter how "small" it is large enough to function and to have fertility.

Someone in my family, the mother of many boys, put it once this way.
She said "my boys are all "tznius", nicely sized, not huge and I am very happy about that."
She said this after seeing someone change her baby's diaper, and that baby's was tremendous.
Silly talk. But I guess she was repulsed by it! Everyone is used to their own.
But I think size runs in families, like height and other genetic tendencies.
Still most people, according to statistics, fall within a half inch of normal.

Most "larger" claims are exaggerated. One size fits all, basically. Or one size fits most. Very Happy

Idiotic amother -- during the 1960s and 70s, there were people who believed that there was no such thing as gender-based characteristics; to the contrary, it was all based on the manner in which one was raised. IOW, if you put a boy in girls' clothes, gave him a few dolls, and called him Shirley, he'd be indistinguishable from girls. Therefore IN CASES IN WHICH THE P*NIS WOULD BE TOO SMALL TO INSERT INTO A VAG*NA there was often gender reassignment. That was also done with respect to intergendered children. That's all discredited now. Today, the trend is to wait, to see what the child wants.

Also, Idiotic amother, it sounds to me like you've been reading too many softcore [filth] novels, or watching too much Hung (which I've never seen, apart from ads on buses, but can imagine). Real people don't act like that. And maybe its time for you to study some chumash or something instead.

OP, I hope none of this has scared you. The best advice I can give you is to take your son to another doctor who is more open and able to discuss your concerns and explain things to you. Chances are, your original pediatrician misused the medical term, or ruled out micrope*is early on. Honestly, if I were you, it would be worth it to take my son to another doctor, whatever the cost, just to hear that! But chas v'shalom there is an issue, you need to know that as well so that you can discuss treatment options. If you're uncomfortable, type it all out and hand it to the doctor. Or bring your husband along. Or your biggest loudmouth friend. Having heard one too many pieces of bad news in my day, let me assure you that not knowing is even worse than knowing.

Hugs to you and your son. And let us know how he is.

Honestly, it is ridiculous to think that someone can tell you what the size of a p@nis is. Either read up on it as a mother should be able to do, or take your son to a doctor.

I don't see what is so ridiculous. half the threads on imamother can be answered by googling...but we choose to post here and see what people here answer...why are you being so harsh? if you think its so simple why don't you read up on it and post the answer. if not, be quiet and let someone else answer if its too "ridiculous" for you.

Because, again, should I tell you 3.5 inches? The size of a grape? Walnut?

Having a question that needs an elaborate answer is one thing. Wanting to find out something medical that you need to see a photo of, or in more detail than is possible on this site and refusing to do so for these reasons is ridiculous.

If you are old enough to get married, and have babies, you should be old enough to talk to the doctor and/or do research on any topic pertaining to yourself or your children/spouse.

Am I the only one who finds it disturbing that mothers of healthy children (I.e. No medical conditon) are trying to determine whether their sons will be small or large as gown men? What, are you planning to pull out a ruler and measure them to see how they compare to the average three year old? And to comment to others regarding their sons' sizes. . . Maybe I'm crazy, but this is very odd to me. Thank Hashem for your healthy children and leave the size up to Him.

(besides for the fact that size in infancy or toddlerhood is likely not the most accurate predictor of size in adulthood. )
