My DH bought a tub of this stuff, labelled פטרוזיליה, with no English equivalent, in the herbs and spices section at the supermarket, and it isn't something either of us recognise. To me it smells weird every time I think about using it (and I'm quite adventurous with herbs and spices, if less so than my DH), so I don't.

What would you use this stuff for? We're vegetarians, so meat/fish uses are interesting, but not especially useful to me.

It is parsley UNLESS the bag was miss marked.

I bought dill once (wanting dill) in a bag marked menta.

If you would normally recognize parsley it may be worth bringing it to a neighbor and asking what it is.

Thanks everyone. It doesn't smell like parsley... (Or look like it much.)

There are different kinds of parsley - I'm not sure how "Italian parsley" differs from the normal sort, but coriander (sometimes called Mexican parsley, sometimes Asian parsley) looks and smells different but is quite nice. If it's any of those, I'd use it the way you would normal parsley, maybe in small quantities to see if you like it. I'd eat any of them, for instance, chopped and added to a salad (as seasoning), or in tabouleh or a chick pea salad. Let us know what you think!
