I love her, but not enough to spend $400 per visit... So I need a new doctor, preferably in Mahattan (I live in Queens but I go to school in the city).

Now, I know Dr. Stromer (I was one of his first deliveries Very Happy He also delivered all my siblings) and if I can't find someone comparable I will definitely use him, but I really much prefer a woman. Any good suggestions? Thanks.

It would help knowing what insurance you have.

I use Dr. Eileen Demarco - she works out of Columbia and has a Washington Heights office and a midtown office.

She's really great! I have no idea if she takes your insurance.

Whats your labor and delivery philosophy? Are you looking for 1. someone who is more natural and cozy, kinda "midwife-y"- would let you go 2 weeks overdue, not in favor of epidural, etc. or 2. someone more medical and professional, more "doctor-y"- would let you go only 10 days overdue, pro-epidural, etc.? Are you interested in 1. a group practice, or 2. a solo practice with only one doctor? If you are interested in a more medically inclined group practice, I would recommend Dr Adler, Dr Kurtz, and Dr Kassenoff. They deliver in Mt Sinai. The main doctors in the practice are male, and jewish and somewhat traditional/ religious: Dr Adler and Dr Kurtz. Dr Kassenoff, a female, and another new female doctor whose name I dont know, round out the group. If this sounds like your style, I can try to get you more info. They are very competent and will try many things before recommending c-section. I kinda almost needed a c-section with DS2, but dr adler (my favorite in the group) did all kinds of things and helped me deliver my baby vaginally, without even forceps or any such thing.

gold21- I have no idea about "philosophy" I've never been pregnant, but I've been getting a yearly checkup since I was in HS. I'm definitely anti-epidural and anti-c-section (unless absolutely necessary) but I'm not sure I buy into midwifery either.

You seem to know more about the men you mentioned. I really do prefer a woman, and if I am going to use a man, I know it will be Saul Stromer, my mom's been using him the last 23 years. The only reason that I have so far never been to him is because I prefer a woman.

Dr. Demarco is pro-epi, but works with you. She provides information but does NOT push you into something you don't want. My last birth was epi free with her. She is really encouraging and wonderful, especially during labor and delivery.

Her practice is only women.

I used Dr. Lana Boter. I thought she was very nice. She has an office in midtown and downtown. She delivers at Downtown Hospital. I am not sure if she takes GHI. She was on vacation when I delivered so another doctor in her practice delivered me.
