Old thread but I was looking for freezable mushroom recipes:
Ra mom and anyone else who made that recipe with the 12 button mushrooms: 1/4 c. SUGAR??? What does the sugar add?

And re pobody's nerfect's recipe: is it possible it was gooey because the mushrooms released a lot of liquid (though I guess that's why it has so little oil)? Or did baking longer do the job?

Thanks!

I make it once or twice. Pretty good kugel but I'm not much of a kugel person in general. The sugar gives it a sweet and savory taste.

So all that sugar and no flour? I was beginning to think it was a typo. Thanks!

Yup, it's correct Smile

You can also sauté diced onions, garlic and sliced mushrooms for simpler more savory kugel. Season well, add eggs and a spoon or two of flour and mayo.

Can you give specific directions for that variation?
I think I'll try it with the sugar. Thanks!

Well, I tried the original. It was actually quite nice.
Sorry to sound surprised. We're of the school that generally doesn't add sugar unless it's dessert (or salad dressing, maybe).
