Am I the only one? Very interesting...

About wanting to be a SAHM? I don't think so...I'm sure there are many who would make that choice.

It's hard for me to imagine the choice as mine. Because even if money weren't a concern, what's best for the kids would be a concern. I don't think I'd be able to really truly consider working 10 hours a day (for example), because I know that can be tough for a little kid, and my kids are still very little.

But that doesn't mean that what I'd like to do, for myself, includes so much time at home... if the kids were in school all day, my choice would probably be different.

For now, I guess my ideal would be similar to what I have now, that is, a mix of learning (mostly) from home, working from home, and being fully with my kids. What I would want to be different, since I'm dreaming - it'd be nice to not do any of the housework, it'd be nice if my learning could be whatever I want it to be, which for me would include more Torah and less courses I have to take toward a major, and if I could actually make it to class once or twice a week. Oh, and it'd be nice if instead of working at my job, I could do independent projects without worrying that I won't make enough to replace my income.

I have so much to do and so little time in which to do it!

If money was no object I would quit my job, open a business (not more than 4 projects a month), start a service that's missing in my neighbourhood (chessed) and do a long-term volunteer project with my kids after school hours. I'd be available for tiyulim but have time to register for classes (continuing ed or "learning") as they cropped up. I would have help in the house to do the stuff I HATE (not too much of it) and time to keep it organized so that the cleaning person didn't have to dig the place out first. DH could quit his jobs, upgrade his skills, and open his own "mobile library" service (for which I guess I'd have to be the driver; or he could hire one). We still wouldn't have enough hours in the day to do everything, but we'd have different kinds of stress and probably be better for it.

Oh, to dream! (And lest anyone think I'm not happy with how things are now, I'm very grateful for how things stand and if they never change I could live with that too.)

Honestly, I'd like to split my mornings between learning and working and be home the rest of the day. However, I would like to be home with my babies FT until they are about 10 months old.

My DREAM day every day would be to be home with my children and doing housework. I am sad every day that I have to go to work. I would love week after week to not miss a single nap time, tantrums and all, and go on outings, to the grocery, to the park. If I could have someone watch them 2 hrs in the morning to go to the gym I would consider myself the winner of a billion dollar lottery. Then make a healthy dinner inthe evening, and bathtime/bedtime. Heaven...

Because I'm just in one of those moods:

Sorry to those that wish I would be in a different one--

G-d is offering you a choice in how you spend your day. Working outside the home. Staying at home w ith the children. Learning. You can choose to do one or more, for a normal day.

What would you choose and why and what would you dh choose? How many hrs for each etc

If I had one single day to do whatever I wanted (meaning all my regular responsibilities are being taken care of) I'd choose to be in Israel visiting all my old friends.
Oops, just realized that would take more than a singe day.

I'd definitely be a SAHM but I'd have a cleaning lady every day and Gordon Ramsay and Susie Fishbein will cook all my meals( when I'm not having Japanese ). Then every day from 12:00 to 2:00 I'll have someone to watch my kids in my house so I can lock myself away and get to work on all those drafts I have lying around to actually write those books that are in my head.
