I left my dough out to rise with a warm damp towel covering it.
I ended up leaving it out for like 6 hours.
when I got home the dough was damp and had a weird smell kind of like poisen or detergent.
I put the dough in the fridge and covered it with a plastic bag (not with the wet towel) hoping that in the morn it would dry out and not be damp.
I took it out this morning and it was not damp anymore but it still had that smell.
then as I began braiding I realized that the bottom layer is also damp...
I put it in the oven but im wondering is it dangerous to eat the challah?
like does the smell of the dough mean maybe the yeast got spoiled?
