I noticed it this morning. Looks gross.
Suddenly the top part of his outer ear is sticking out & red & all puffy.
I called the dr. who figured it's either a bite or allergies & suggested benydryl. It hasn't improved all day & I am reluctant to give benydryl again since he has never had any allergies.
Has anyone ever seen anything like this? If it doesn't go away by tomorrow I will see the doc regardless, but meanwhile I'm wondering.

I have 2 boys who get it. The older one has finally outgrown it, my 11 year old though always seems to have his blown up. Benadryl, claritin or other allergy medication usually works. Its nothing to worry about, but it doesnt hurt to have the dr. check it out at least once.
The first time I noticed it on my older boy I ran to the dr. now I just leave it alone or give benadryl if its bothering him.

are you sure it's not a bee sting?? someone in my family is allergic to bees and her ear tripled in size when stung. if you aren't sure if he's allergic and the ear looks very big, you should go to the ER.

Thanks for your replies. I've never heard of this before.
Shanie5, do you think I should give him benydryl again? How long did it take to go down again?

I had that twice with my son, it looked scary. I didn't give him anything I just put on bacitracin to prevent further infection. The swelling was down the next day.

That's good. It was probably just a bite (my 2 year old calls it a bike) in the wrong place. Give it another day and it's gone.

Mosquito bites can blow up like that. My kids get that quite often. Me and some of my kids are pretty allergic to mosquito bites.

Yes, it's completely gone.
Thank you ladies. You saved me a trip to the doc.
