DD and I are leaving Sunday IYH to spend a couple of days with my sister, and then a couple of days with my mom. In some form or another, we have always done this.

Anyway, DH is home alone and whereas he could cook or eat out, why should he; he feels bad enough that he doesn't come along with us. So, I would always make a big amount of Shabbos food and then he had that for a few days.

Well....this year I merrily planned my meals and bought my ingredients and started my preparations...and then I thought, it's only 5 dinners, he's never going to eat all this food!

I actually made:
2 rolls of striped gef fish
large challah bowl of salad
large challah bowl of melon salad
container of eggsalad
container of babaganoush
three packages of chicken thighs, baked
container of homemade cranberry sauce from freezer
5 lbs potato kugel
tray of peach crisp
tray of Bavarian Apple Torte

I also bought a lb of pastrami and a lb of smoked turkey.

I wanted to also make:

All of the above
The chicken baked with rice or potatoes and steamed veggies
Deli rolls (with half a package of dough)
a tray of Defy's layered chicken and pastrami strata
9 by 13 pumpkin pie

We are three people for the Shabobs meals, so it's not all for him....

It's worse to have extra food and it go to waste, right? I didn't need the stuff from the 2nd list, right?

I came back to a completely empty fridge!

Friends came over and helped out with the apple torte - but dd said he was pretty tired of chicken by week's end and that he ended up throwing some out.

Anyway, I came back two hours beofre Shabbos (late on Friday aft) and quickly ran two loads of laundry, showered, and made up some shnitzel and salads. I guess you could say I'm quick - I was pretty nervous, that's for sure!
