I'm looking to move somewhere not to far from brooklyn, that has much cheaper standards of living. Please write.

Monsey has cheaper standards of living but the rents are a fortune not more then the city though. I do not find that anyone has to live up to standard in monsey wesley hills and forshay is a bit more into standards. Besen parkway area is really nice and a mixed crowd with no standards either. Good luck

Me too!

We've looked at the following so far:
Staten Island
Far Rockaway
Bridgeport, CT
Waterbury, CT
Elizabeth, NJ
Lakewood

Any info on the above (if you've lived there, or live there now) or any mid-size frum communities in the area we haven't thought of would be very much appreciated.

What about Passaic NJ. I think housing there is still much cheaper than in brooklyn.

don't forget if you move, you need a car which in brooklyn you do not...

also, you 'll be sending your kdis to schol & shopping wherever is available, not nec. your choice.

also - you won't make a ny salary, yet you;ll have plenty of ny expenses.

that's why I bought and stay in c.h.!

scranton, pa is very nice. cheap houses (some need more work than others) good schooling and relatively close to NY

CT, Monsey and Passaic can be very expensive!

I'll tell you what I know/think about Monsey;

Monsey has become brooklyn with grass in many areas, you still get more house for your money but its really very important not just to find a house there but to find a block you like, every few blocks is like a totally different neighborhood. Also property taxes there are averaging on about 10k a year but you dont pay city tax. Also theres the added expense of year round gardener/snow removal cuz its usually too big to care for yourself. and since you wrote much cheaper standard of living, I would say not, cuz its only slight between brooklyn and monsey.

Housing in Scranton, Pa ranges between about 100 to 200 for an average to large sized house. There are some for less and more than that too. Standard of living is very not fancy.

Do you need to have daily access to brooklyn, school work etc. Staten Island houses 3 bedrom semi goes in the low 400K, not cheap, but better than brooklyn. you can check out www.sibor.com, and http://www.ny4salebyowner.com/ for houses.

Unfortunately, a person can't "have it all." I don't think that what you're looking for exists: easy access to Brooklyn, but much cheaper. There is no place nearby with easy access that;s "much cheaper."

For the other amother that posted a list of neighborhoods, I read an article recently in the HaModia about Stamford CT. It's a small, but growing community....might be worth checking into.
