I don't normally watch movies at all. However, I am a bad traveler and have found that I can kill the pain of traveling at least some by watching movies on my laptop.
Even in my non-frum youth I wasn't much of a movie person, so I am really clueless as to what titles to look for. I've spent hours browsing Blockbuster without much success.
I'm traveling again next week and must find 1-2 movies to watch (I'll pay rentals or download fees -- doesn't need to be free), but I don't have any idea what to look for.
I want classic-type, clean movies. For example, I recently watched War & Peace (that kind of romance stuff is okay) and it was perfect.
Please help with ideas. Thanks.

Great suggestion - exactly the type of thing I'm looking for, but its much too familiar (one of the few files I've watched numerous times).

Thanks so much. I actually almost rented Grapes of Wrath when I got War & Peace, but decided on that one instead.
Don't think silent will do it. Muppets aren't my speed either. The others though look like good ideas. I appreciate your help.

Never downloaded movies before -- always rented DVDs. I see there's numerous different formats. What format do I want to download it to my laptop and then play it later?

Windows Media Player supports files with the ".avi" extension.

Get "Newsies."
My favorite from when I was little. It's also one of those historically-based films, takes place over a hundred years ago in NYC. The poor newsboys go on strike, fighting against the powerful Pulitzer and Hearst.

A Little Princess, the 1995 version. Love that movie! And so clean!
Annie is also a cute, clean movie.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions -- you've given me plenty to work with.
Now, I need help figuring out where to download from. I feel a little silly here as I'm a computer professional, but I just don't understand the different options.
I don't want to subscribe to something where I need to pay a monthly fee.
I want to download for a fee what I want when I want it (which is occasionally). I want a reputable place, no bit-torrent things.
I don't mind if I need to become a member as long as I'm only paying for what I want to download and that time.
I also want something where I can download it to play later, not where I've got to play it immediately.
Is there anyplace that works like I've described? If you wanted to do this, how would you go about it?
Thanks again.

I think netflix has that option. you pay the one month fee, you get a custom player where you can download movies to watch later. the public libary also has that on their website, you can download and watch up to a week later I think

When I used to watch movies, I loved:
1. A Little Princess
2. Corrina, Corrina
3. Life is Beautiful
4. The Incredibles (a Pixar-animated film, but soooo good!)
5. Remember the Titans
6. Lord of the Rings
7. Annie
8. Newsies
9. Sleepless in Seattle
10. While you were Sleeping
11. Cats and Dogs
12. Little Women

Besides others that were already mentioned, I personally love The Princess Bride. It has the added element of some really funny lines.

I would go with what Raisin said. I've never done it but I had a friend who used to "rent" movies on I-tunes. She would DL them in advance, and then have 30 days to watch it. I'm not sure if the file then disappeared after 30 days or after she watched it once. Worth checking out, and probably cheaper than just buying from ITunes.
