We are invited to a private dinner for an aquaintance who is celebrating a Siyum. What is the proper protocal for gift giving as we have never attended something like this?

Anyone??? Really don't know what to do here. We are not used to going to events empty handed however we have never attended a dinner for such a thing so we are at a loss on what to do.

Comments, suggestions???
