Okay, I put the cholent ingredients in the crockpot around 10 this morning and realized 5 hours later that I never turned it on. I dumped everything into a stockpot where it is now simmering. My question: Will the cholent be safe to eat?

Was the meat frozen when you put it in?

I'd sniff it. If the meat smells off, then rethink using it. If the meat was frozen, I'd have no hesitation to use it.

The meat was refrigerated, not frozen. I didn't notice any off-smells when I transferred the whole mess to a stockpot.

If it wasn't really warm, I'd have no problem using it.

I've returned the cholent to the crockpot to continue cooking. I guess we'll find out... Confused

I hope my next post isn't from the "women's health" forum!

You could always blame an upset tummy on Purim junk if there was an issue ;-)

Purim Sameach!

Ah, I see. I'm a graphic artist also -- and the graphic artist and a partner in that excellent Planner/Organizer. Well, "We ate the cholent and nobody died, b"H!" would be an attention getting signature line.
