so my grandparents-in-laws are buying us some amazing furniture for the new baby iyH, and I'm excited about getting a mini-crib/bassinet since Yitzy did NOT like the shakiness of a pack 'n play bassinet and every single other one I've looked at in stores is just as rickety.
anyhow.
the mattress that comes with the crib lists the following as material
--100% organic coir (coconut husks coated in natural latex), lambswool, and cotton
--100% pure unbleached organic cotton mattress cover
since it has wool, must it get checked for linen?

Isn't Shatnez just a clothing issue? Meaning, you can't wear it, but it's okay to have a mattress stuffed with the mix?

I heard about a rav from years ago who wouldn't sit on the train for fear that the seats contained shatnez.

The prohibition on shatnez is for clothing so unless you plan to dress your baby in the mattress then leave it alone.
ETA - Sheets DO count as they go on top of your body so can be classified along with clothes, I would hope that that would be irrelevant with a mattress.

I asked my husband and he says that something hard, like a mattress, it's not an issue as it doesn't surround you with the caveat that it should not touch the body, ie. you need to put down a sheet first.
