my family has never been on vacation and I really wanna bring my family to the country this summer for a coupla days but there is VERY little money to spare. I wanna take them to a cheap non jewish hotel like a motel six, or super 8 and bring my own food with a hot plate, and spend the time doing free/cheap things like picnicking or visiting historical sites/trainrides, ect.
I am looking for a recommendation for a clean value motel in the falsberg/liberty/montecello vicinity and recommendations for free and cheap things to do. remember I never go tot he country so what you might think is boring and old hat, I probably havent done ye so lay it on me. I just really think my kids need some fresh air and room to stretch their legs.

I would also do tannersville, and the hotel doesn't have to be a major chain as long as its clean.

I don't know about the hotels, but Morningside park is a beautiful place for a picnic or barbeque. They also have boating there and a playground.
There's also Hanofy park in Liberty, which has a big playground and a picnic area and you can hike around their lake.
You might want to walk around Woodebourne, and go for pizza there. There's also a Dougie's and a chinese restaurant there.
There's a gorgeous farm in Kerhonkson. I can't think of what it's called- something like Hadley's farm. They have a free petting zoo, and a corn maze and you can pick vegetables. The maze and the vegetables cost money, though. It's a longish ride there (about 45 minutes), but the view is stunning.

When my father used to come visit me in camp he would take me out on little trips. I particularly remember him taking me to a huge water reservoir where my pa explained to me how the water is delivered throughout NYC. It was very educational and beautiful. It's been years yet I still remember it's beauty. Bear mountains is very pretty and free too. Nice zoo and park.

Just came across this post and wondering if you found a place to stay for that price? I'd love to take my kids up next weekend.
