I was wondering if anyone had any good ideas for shabbat lunch appetizers. Ideally something that canbe served cold or at room temperature. I usually do a variety of salads, but we have guest coming who don't really eat salad(every time they come, I have tons of leftover salad), so Making salads won't work. I also cannot have fish or eggs/liver for various reasons.

any and all help appreciated!

1/2 grapefruit. you can potchke it up with sliced kiwi if you want. the only annoying thing about it is you can't cut it too far in advance. I also sometimes do melon slices/wedges, or pineapple. Then I make a non-fruity thing for dessert.

I cant do sesame, my son is highly allergic, and pasta is also a problem, as most brands have egg contamination, so I can't always find safe ones. Thanks though. Smile

I do fruit soup.

other times fruit salad, or

melon salad (cube several types of melons).

If you want fancy, 1/2 cantalope per person, cut zigzag cups, fill with fruit salad.

Or, deli lettuce salad.

Good luck!

Strawberry Soup:

1 bag frozen strawberries (defrost)
1 quart fresh strawberries
1 1/4 cups low fat coffee rich
1 tsp. vanilla
2 Tablespoons lemon juice
1/2 cup sugar
'
Put in food processor and chill in refrigerator.

I also have a very hard time with cold soups, but this one is so delicious!

If you can find a pasta that works for you, this can be made without the sesame. I do it all the time because I'm allergic.

Is there a good substitute for the fresh strawberries in the strawberry soup recipe? More frozen or will that mess it up?
