I decided to no longer take my kids out if they aren't dressed 100% properly.

Think it will matter, in the long run?

Becuase I see, in the short run, they def. do what they want!

I agree with you 100%.

I assume your talking betzad tznius and not only weather Wink !

If you put your foot down and show them you will not tolerate it now or ever, your children will def. see that you're standing firm to your decision.

Remember.. Be consistent!!!

I would tell them when you come with me you dress in a way that is respectful to me. Out of respect to there parents they should at least dress the way you want them to when you take them out.

it might not work, just make your kids more aggrevated and want to dress even worse than they already do, and just make them angry at you in the process.
My mother used to try that on me, I'd just get annoyed at her and either say "fine I wont go out at all then" or I'd make my own way to places I needed to go. It didn't solve the fact that I wasn't wearing what she wanted me to wear.
It also depends to what extent they're dressing not tzniut.

One of my twins friends came to our home on shabbos

not properly dressed she wore her friends clothing two sizes to small.

I said to her does your Mother know what you are wearing?

Yeah, I don't know exactly how this is going down. The fact that it's winter is not helping.

It can help, or just make the children cheat and go untsnius behind your back. Such a difficult situation... I would be for asking the child why they want to dress like that and go from there...

I had friends in high school who would come over to my house and get redressed with whatever clothing they wanted because their parents wouldn't let them wear certain things. I think that a parent has to teach and try to make a child realize what is right, but I think that it is hard to prevent them from doing something if they want to.

good for you. I agree 100% with that as a set rule.

yes, if you are consistent. you will show them ultimately whats important.

SaraG - you said your daughter is 17. I think thats a little late to start somethign like this. Also, at that age I doubt she really needs you to be taking her out.
