How long can raw chicken be left out of the fridge? I would say that the first few hours it was defrosting, but then once it was defrosted already, it was probably out for at least 8 -10 hours.
Can I use it? Or should I just throw it away? I put it in the fridge now, but I am not sure.

Definitely throw it out. It shouldn't be room temp for more than 2 hours. It's much safer to defrost chicken in the fridge or in a bowl of cold water (which I also do in the fridge just in case) which is a lot faster.

Was it cold before you put it in the fridge?

oy, I did not take notice. I just threw it in really fast. probably not. I threw it in at 7:30 this morning. I went to bed at 11 pm, so it was probably not cold.

how does chicken defrost if it is in cold water? I never heard of this Smile
That is what I thought, that I would have to throw it away.

Liquids conduct heat better than air does, so frozen items defrost more quickly in water, even in cold water.

OK, Im going to take out fresh chicken from the freezer and defrost in cold water and throw the other chicken away. Oy, I hate throwing food in the garbage. Sad better luck next time remembering.
