How long can raw chicken be left out of the fridge? I would say that the first few hours it was defrosting, but then once it was defrosted already, it was probably out for at least 8 -10 hours.
Can I use it? Or should I just throw it away? I put it in the fridge now, but I am not sure.

Definitely throw it out. It shouldn't be room temp for more than 2 hours. It's much safer to defrost chicken in the fridge or in a bowl of cold water (which I also do in the fridge just in case) which is a lot faster.

Was it cold before you put it in the fridge?

I never heard of this
That is what I thought, that I would have to throw it away.

Liquids conduct heat better than air does, so frozen items defrost more quickly in water, even in cold water.
