A few years ago mishpacha had a recipe for a meat roll with mashed potatoes in a puff pastry dough - does anyone have a similar recipe?

I do. I use a homemade crust but puff pastry works fine.
For potatoes, get out some instant mashed potatoes. Saute one large onion in the amount of fat used for 8-10 servings, then make the mashed potatoes in the onion pot. I think it should make two loaves. Roll out crust, put mashed potatoes in middle third, cover, bake with seam down.
For meat, I got this from a friend. You can make it with fresh raw meat, freeze and bake closer to yom tov.
2 lg. onions
1 1/2 lbs. ground meat
1 c. cooked rice or mashed potatoes
1 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper
2 eggs
Saute onions. Combine with other ingredients. Roll out one ball of dough at a time into a rectangle, about 9 x 13. Fill center length will filling. Put sides one over the other. Pinch together down the length. Put on a greased cookie sheet, pinched side down. Slit top of dough only, into desired portions as a guide. Bake at 350 for 1 hour. Freezes very well.
