I've never tried it with butter! I always use margarine for it.

For anyone who is avoiding margarine and wants a yummy parve chocolate chip cookie, here's one with oil -- you can't tell the difference in the taste!!
Cream together:
1 c. oil
1 c. sugar
1/2 c. brown sugar
2 eggs
2 tsp. vanilla
(Don't worry if it looks a bit grainy as opposed to the creamy texture you get with margarine -- that's normal at this point.)
Mix together:
2 3/4 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. baking powder
Slowly add the flour mixture to the rest of the ingredients, mixing well.
Add aprox. 1 cup of chocolate chips, and mix until just combined.
Preheat oven to 350 F (180 C). Bake on ungreased cookie sheets for 9 -- 10 minutes.
Absolutely delicious!!

I have been making these cookies for some time now. I don't think they're the most amazing chocolate chip cookies I've had, but they're good and everyone likes them. That's what counts . Today, I made them into chocolate cookies. I think it's too sweet, so I add less sugar, so making it into chocolate, I used the right amount of sugar and added 1/2 cup of baking cocoa. Everyone liked them.
