I am looking for a recipe for yummy cookies that aren't the usual, meaning, not choco chip, crinkle, oatmeal...
I am making a small mishloach manos and the cookies will be the highlight. Any ideas what I can make?

Stained glass cookies (cookies with the middle cut out, melt hard candy to pour in the middle).

Zebra cookies
streimel cookies
chocolate and vanilla rope cookies
pinwheel cookies.

Which tastes the best and isn't very difficult to make?

streimel cookies:

200gram margarine
2tsp vanila
100gram melted baking chocolate
1 cup brown sugar
2tbsp orange juice

Preheat oven to 350F.
cream the margarine and sugar, add the rest of the ingredients and mix until it forms a smooth dough.
Roll into small balls and using your thumb press down the middle onto the tray to make an indent.
Bake for 15mins. As soon as they come out of the oven, use the back of a teaspoon measurer or your thumb (careful it is hot) to press down the centre again to remake the indent.

In a small pot melt:
150gram baking chocolate
1tbsp honey or corn syrup
1.5tbsp margarine
1tbsp vanilla
1tbsp water.

Melt on medium flame until smooth. DO NOT BURN!

Use a small teaspoon to fill the centre of the cookies with the chocolate mixture (doesn't need a lot just a small bit in each one).
Leave to cool and the store in a container. They freeze great as well.!

Ok. Sounds yum. So if I freeze it, when should I take it out to put it into the mishloach manos? Can I freeze them in the celaphance bags that I will put into my mm or is that not a good idea? If I don't want to freeze it, how long before Purim can I make it that it should still taste good?

Choc chips,
After you fill the cookies, do u put them back in the oven? If so, for how long?

I can't wait to try these. Are they similar to the Stella Doro shtreimel cookies?

To answer all the q's:
yes you can freeze them in cellophane, I don't think anything will happen.
NO after filling you do not bake again, it does not say that in the recipe.
It makes about 50 cookies??? maybe 40. Depends how big you make them. I have never counted because by the time I get around to counting at least half of them have been eaten (they are sooo divine when warm!)

a tip: don't roll them too large or too long because it will cause them to crack.

It doesn't matter which. And yes you can use the dough hook. You might have to use your hands at the end to make into a smooth dough.

I made them. The flavor is heavenly but I'm not sure the texture is right. Before I made the balls the dough was quite crumby. Is that how it's supposed to be? The cookie sort of leaves your mouth dry after you eat it. Is that how it's supposed to be? Does it crack when you make the dent in the ball?
