The smell of fire outside halfway across town is really strong.

The smell of fire is coming from Staten Island. I could imagine that people in the crowd panicked from the smell.

Seems like the bad fire smell which originates from a brush fire in near Staten Island scared the women, who started running out of the building, trampling each other in the process. A few people were hurt.

So far, they're claiming no injuries. Only power outages in about 200 homes.

Just by the way, where do you people get these news-es from? I can never seem to figure out what's going on, and half the time I don't even know anything's going on until I see it on imamother

Actually, the smell was from the brush fires in Staten Island.
Someone got scared off by the smell and pulled the fire alarm at BY of BP. All the girls there watching the film got into a panic and trampled their way out of the hall....
All injuries were from being trampled - broken bones, etc.
