These Italian meatballs are delishes.

3 Tbsp olive oil
1/2 cup chopped onion
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 Tbsp sugar
2 tsp salt
1 tsp dried oregano
1/2 tsp dried basil
1/4 tsp black pepper
28 oz. crushed Italian tomatoes or basil cubed tomatoes
12 oz. tomato paste

Combine all meatball ingredients. Shape mixture into meatballs. Bake for for 25 minute.
In the meantime, saute onion until it just begins to turn golden. Add remaining saute ingredients and bring sauce to bubble. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 30 minutes. Add meatballs to pot; cover and simmer for 1 additional hour; stirring from time to time.
Serve meatballs and sauce over spaghetti.

Can you clarify- are the ingredients you listed all for the sauce, or are some for the meatballs? Thanks! Cool

All for the sauce.

I use my regular meatball mixture. (1.5 lbs. ground meat, 1 egg + 1 egg white, 3/4 cup breadcrumbs, 1 small grated onion, 2 crushed garlic cloves, 1 tsp kosher salt)

This is the best recipe for meatballs I have ever tasted. I think the secret ingredient is the bread in wine. And the cinnamon.

For the meatballs:
3 thick slices white bread
1/4 cup wine
1 garlic clove
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp cumin
500 gms mince meat
1 onion grated
1 egg
Salt and Pepper to taste
Handful of chopped parsley (optional)
Flour for coating

Sauce:
800mls Tomato Passata (I use crushed tomatoes and add some water)
2 Tbsp Tomato Paste
2 Tbsp Tomato Sauce
Reserved wine (I add some more as well)
1 crushed garlic clove
1-2 Tbsp Sugar
Bay leaf
Salt and Pepper

For the meatballs:
Take the crusts off the white bread and soak it in the wine.
Mix together all other meatball ingredients.
Squeeze the wine out of the bread (you can reserve it and add to sauce) and add to meatball mixture.
Form meatballs and roll in flour. The original recipe is to fry them but recently I have started baking them which is much easier and almost tastes the same.

For the sauce:
Mix all ingredients, bring to boil and simmer for around 20 min

Any way to make the Italian meatballs without baking them first?

.

If you don't fry or bake them first, you get a big pot of grease from the chopped meat.
