I would like to get certified as a massage therapist.
Would you go to a frum massage therapist that is open minded and very discreet (not nosy)?

I would go to any female, if I had to.

What's with being not nosy? isn't it just a massage?

I also put up a post in chasidishe velt, and some women posted that they didnt like using frum specialists, they felt like they were too nosy, asked too many private questions not in regard to their profession.

So, I felt like I had to stress on the not nosy part.

If you're qualified and do a good job, of course I would go to a frum massage therapist. My friend is actually in school now for massage therapy.

I personally HATE being massaged -- I had to go to a physical therapist for an ankle injury once, and I was in AGONY whenever she would massage around my feet. I don't think it was due to incompetence or anything, I just cringe and feel like jumping out of my skin when people do deep-tissue touching. (I'm perfectly fine with hugs and stuff, though. Wink )

So, I'm not a good example, but just wanted to let you know I have a friend who dropped out of a PT program because she preferred the massage, touchy-feely parts of it and didn't want the science, and she's B"H doing well with that as a profession! She works for an agency but also has a massage table in her garage for private appointments.

We have a frum lady in our community who does massage. I actually prefer to go to her. No men in the place, I don't feel weird about having my hair covered, etc.

As far as the nosy part, I do avoid avoid frum professionals for certain things for this reason, but this wouldn't be one of them.

I don't think I'd want to go to a frum massage therapist whom I know. It just seems like the type of service best performed by someone I don't have personal contact with, similar to how I feel about a doctor. I think it would be awkward to get a massage with Sarah in the morning and call her in the afternoon to arrange a camp carpool for our kids.

I think I would actually prefer it.... I think its maybe because of the fact that a frum therapist would have an understanding of who I am (frum/religious vs. an irreligious person) - and an understanding of what would possibly be more comfortable and/or uncomfortable. She would have more of a sensitivity towards different areas and its always more comforting having someone who understands your sensitivities. I'm not specifically referring to myself but possibly anyone, including an unmarried girl - who usually has more of a sensitivity towards ppl touching her or seeing her uncovered. This is just IMHO Smile Hope this doesn't sound too confusing and you get what I'm trying to say Smile

Isn't the market flooded with frum lady massage therapists? How many people pay for this kind of service anyway ?

There's actually one who lives down the block from me, I would go everyday if I could afford it. She just says undress to your level of comfort and that only what she is working on is what's uncovered. Until she gets a studio she works from her house/makes house calls. I actually like that she's sensitive to one's personal level of modesty. I like that she's frum, makes it easier to talk to her.
Whether or not the market is flooded probably depends on where you live. If you sense a need in your area, go for it.

I just say hello and smile and don't make conversation.
I would just not be so outgoing to a customer, if they want to talk go ahead. But most people don't want to talk while gettign a massage so not much of a "nosy" issue.

I have had 3 massages in my life (not enough Crying )
Two with a frum therapist and one not.
the first therapist used oil and it was yuck.
the 2nd was not frum, and the third was great.
My 2 cents: Go easy on the oil.... Wink
Good luck!!
