I mean, with gilgulim and other tikunim and neshomas have to be mekayaim - how do you know what you should "push" (as in infertility) and what you should leave alone?

Tamim tihye im Hashem Elokecha - be simple with Hashem ie do not search for the unknown. We must look at our lives and live them simply without looking beyond what we know.
We should increase our awareness of our inner selves, recognizing the problematic areas and correcting them.
If Hashem decides that we should know about a previous gilgul that needs tikun etc - He will let us know, then we will presumably know how to deal with it too.
