See a different doctor. Hug If your mommy-radar says something is wrong, pay attention to it.

Hi, hugs to you and your ds. It definitely could be PANDAS - which is strep gone bad. That's kind of hard to pin and you'll need a sympathetic, understanding dr. who's willing to run tests to help you determine this. Has your ds had strep or have others around him had strep?

It could be an allergic reaction to something as well. My ds gets tics with environmental allergens - they do go away after some time.

There are some things you can do to help alleviate the tics, but most important is getting to the root cause. Don't think, ch'v'sh, that your ds is not on par with his peers - this is something beyond his control - but it can be dealt with, imo.

Feel free to pm me if you have any questions. If I can't answer them, at least I can be a sympathetic ear - having dealt with this in my ds.

Hatzlacha and refuah shleima!

I agree that you need to see another dr. this is something that needs to be diagnosed and treated.

I will ask the moderators to change the title. I understand your child is having some disturbing behaviors and I feel for you but the "R" word is not the way to express yourself. My son is [crazy] & has not one of the behaviors you are describing.

If you live in Brooklyn, try Dr. Susan Schulman, a pediatician in Boro Park. She is very knowldgable about PANDAS. Also, I think you might want to see a neurologist to find out why these ticks are happening. Possibly Tourette's or something else that you can address. He is young and there is hope! You can probably get a referal from your pediatrician or else call Relief at (718)431-9501 or Rabbi Berman (Refuah Resources) (718)437-7474. Much Hatzlacha!

I have tourettes and it started to manifest itself around age 7. I would seriously look in to neurologists that specialize in movement disorders.

OP, Where are you located? Why don't you go immediately to your pediatrician?

Is anything new or traumatic going on his life? How does he respond when you draw his attention to the tics, lovingly, of course?

I would definitely see another GP as well as a neurologist, but sometimes these things can be nervous habits.

My daughter demonstrated some tics when she was being bullied at school. Arm flapping, jumping around in a strange way, this weird intake of breath with a grunt at the end. We talked about it a lot and worked on deep breathing and I gave her star charts. She could earn points for each 1/4 of the day that she didn't do the tics. It took a while to break it, plus a lot of talking about it in a very loving, supporting way, but we dealt with it.

I wish I had some ideas for you op.A psychiatrist or neurologist may be a place to start. Op's apology accepted about the "R" word.Thank you for rereading your post. Now I have asked mods to edit this offensive word a few times. I hope they will also see that the title should be modified.

I also think you should look in to Tourette's as a possible cause.

Was your son recently vaccinated when the tics started? Vaccines can be a trigger for certain neurological issues.

Actually, pandas does exist and 2 family members of mine had it. They were both misdiagnosed for a while. When all medication (ie. ritilin....) did not help, the doctor finally brought pandas into the picture. The doctor put both of them on pandas medication and tada! after a couple of weeks improvement started to progress quickly. I SAY DON'T RULE IT OUT. Most doctors just dont have enough experience with it.

Your pediatrician is on to something when she says to ignore. Make sure to see a specialist but keep your cool in front of your child. If they pick up on your anxiety it can make the tics much worse.
