We are considering bunk beds for 4 yr and 5 yr old boys. Can you please share pros/cons of bunk beds in general and best place to buy.

Thank you

For safety reasons, kids under 6 should not sleep on top bunk. look for:

full-length railing on both sides of top bunk--do not compromise on this.
sturdy construction
multiple slats across the width to support the mattress
ability to separate into two twin beds optional
ample clearance between top and bottom bunk
built-in ladder, not removable
check for comfort of the ladder when climbing with bare feet

avoid like the plague beds with inexpensive welded-tubing frames.

check www.cpsc.gov (consumer product safety commission) for safety details

This End Up unfortunately sells only online, but their bunk beds are well-made.

Also look for models with optional trundle beds if your family is growing and you;re staying put, or models with built-in storage.
