My 3 year old has a small cavity. The dentist advised that with kids this age he gives them an antihistamine to take 2 hours before the office visit which makes them drowsy. He doesn't give them an injection to numb the area. He claims the injection is more traumatic for a 3 year old than drilling for a few seconds.
Has anyone had this done for their child? I am freaking out by the thought of my child feeling that drill.......

We filled dd's teeth at age 2 without novacane. No antihistamine either. I don't think they used a drill? Don't remember. She screamed through it all even though I know the doc was very gentle. I don't regret going that route though as at that age it's best to keep the other stuff away.
