I am making avocado salad for a 7 Brochos tonight. Would like to make it as early as possible, keep it in the fridge and than right before to scoop it out on plates. How do I prevent it from getting black?
Please help....!

lemon juice will help and keep the pits inside the salad until right before you serve. also wrap tightly so that it is not exposed to air - touch saran wrap to the top of the avocado. you might have to skim some discoloration off the top layer but the rest should be fine

Put the pit in the salad and take it out only right before serving.

Bit of lemon jc.
And as mentioned above, leaving the pit in the salad really helps.

most important is the saran wrap - it's the air that turns it black. I usually put a sandwich bag over the dip dish. It has to be tight - no air exposure at all - and it will not get black

leave pit in. And lay a layer of saran wrap tight over the top of the salad.

Amazingly, it does work! I thought it was made up and took an avocado to work every day for a week just to disprove it. Well, I was the one proven wrong as it works like a charm. Its some sort of miracle, if you ask me

I just fill a plastic cup 1/2 way with water, and dunk the pit into it. It will float.

And then what do you do?

You leave the pit in the water? and leave the avocado out separate?
How does that work.

You just need to remember you can't put the pit in water on Shabbos -- that would be zorea (planting).

Lol just this shabbos my BIL mentioned a shaila someone asked: if a woman in labor goes to the hospital on shabbos, may they take along the pit in water and remove it when.a baby is born so the avacado at home should turn black??? While he didn't know the answer, it was an interesting discussion...

Why would they want the avocado to turn black when the baby is born? Confused
