You can still watch the shows on Hulu or Netflix or any of the free links all over the internet like ch131.

Other sci-fi/fantasy shows with well-rounded female leads are Fringe (a bit gory, but very philosophical and character-driven as well), and the infinitely-quotable Joss Whedon shows -- Buffy the Vampire Slayer (and the spinoff show Angel), Firefly and Dollhouse (this one has more gratuitous s-xiness than the others, but the ideas and characters are cool and thought provoking enough for me).
On the lighter side, Warehouse 13 is fluffy fun, and I love that the male and female leads have a big sister-little brother thing going on instead of the expected UST.

Try "Chopped" on Hulu! Its entertaining and fast and totally Kosher (except the food of course!) and Iron Chef America comes in 2nd in food. I find I'm learning stuff as well as having total fun!
