What kind of passport do you need?

- What is your country of citizenship?
- Do you live in that country, or do you live abroad?
- Do you need a new pasport, or do you need to extend an old one?

In the US, for regular service, $80 to the state department for kids and I think it was $120 for adults. Plus $25 to the post office for each one. You need several documents with you, and photos. There is an online application form that takes you through each step and you can print the application when you have completed it.

I think we can assume OP is a US citizen, living in the New York area Wink

it just took me ONE week to get a new british passport through my local embassy. You used to be able to do it in one day because they did it at the embassy, but now they are sent away to be done. I included my airline ticket so they knew I needed it soon.

How many other countries allow you to do it at the post office?

a resident of GB can bring a completed passport renewal form, with the required fee, to a main post office. I think it is supposed to take a month or so to get the passport this way.

If you are renewing for an adult you don't need to go to a post office you can do it by mail. It was so convenient. It's $110 to renew an adult passport and it lasts 10 years.
