Try this, but cook rice in rice cooker instead.

Can you clarify how this is done? Do I make the rice in the cooker and do the rest in a pot and then just combine? Any way to throw it all in the cooker?

You could put the onions in with the rice in the rice cooker, but the mushrooms won't brown in a rice cooker. You might have to cook the mushrooms separately.
