If you would like to ask more specific questions I'll try to help.
Freelancing means working for people on a job to job basis, rather than being permanently employed by them. You can work in many areas as a freelancer (e.g. editing, graphics, writing etc.), and you can translate as either a freelancer or be employed by a company in-house or at home for a fixed number of hours.
Which languages do you know? And how well do you know them? Have you taken a translating course?
