"The Ultimate" Cream Cheese Hamantaschen
makes 2 doz
1/4 cup sugar
1 stick marg or butter
1/2 cup cream cheese
1/2 tsp vanilla
1/8 tsp salt
1 cup flour
Egg wash- egg, water, and some sugar
Filling - from 12 oz can or use jelly
Cream your sugar, fat, and cream cheese. Blend in vanilla, salt, flour until a soft dough is formed.
Chill until easy to handle, about 30 min. in fridge. Preheat the oven to 350 and prepare your baking pans.
Roll out the dough on well floured board, being careful not to press to firmly. Cut your 3 inch rounds. Do the eggwash and your filling and make the triangles. Leave some filling showing, do your eggwash again, and bake about 18-22 minutes.
Dip in melted chocolate and coconut, or chocolate and nuts, or choc and sprinkles, for a festive touch!

Thanks so much for this amazing recipe
Greenfire - an egg wash is the liquid you brush on right before baking (think egg on top of challah). So use 1 egg and a little water and a pinch of sugar. This is like a "glaze" on top.

I'm also wondering this. I'd like to make these, but if I do I will do something to make them look different from my reg hamantashen.
You could dip them in milk chocolate, which has a much lighter color than pareve chocolate.

I use a very similar dough for milchig rugelach. (If I give them away, I put a little "dairy" sticker on the package.) The cream cheese dough is delicious and flaky. But if you're going to use cream cheese--skip the margarine!!
