I thought my 5 year old DD has some hearing issues. For example: we would call her and it would take yelling to get her attention, I would say something like, do u want apiece of cake, and she would respond, no I don't want a rake. It was getting very frustrating so we took her for an ENT appointment. After spending what feels like a wasted morning, she passed the hearing test with flying colors, and the doctor in the arrogant way that some doctors can be, told us she doesn't have a hearing problem, just a listening one. I, however, don't buy it. I know my kid. I know when she gets "selective listening" and when she doesn't. Ironically the deaf audiologist suggested it could be a speech/language pathology issue, but a supervisor shot down more testing. Does any one have any suggestions as to what could be the problem, could it be a processing issue? In terms of milestones (walking, speech, cognitive, etc.) she was average or slightly above so we have never suspected anything. Should we get a second opinion?
