A lot has changed since those nostalgic times.

Can those times ever come back?

What will it take?

Disclaimer: My mil , AH, and I certainly had our issues.

I think giving the dil space and respecting her privacy fosters good relationships.

(Naomi was most involved in every aspect Ruth's life- down to how to capture Boaz for husband. No space here.)

There were always issues, but when the DIL was young and impressionable (and hand picked?) maybe the MIL had it easier.

There are still today women who love their MIL, some even better than their own moms, though this is not good either.

I think the naomi/rus relationship was different because of the times ...

today you probably have some good mil/dil relationships and some bad ones ... depending on the dynamics of each personality and/or their family backgrounds

quite often a mil & dil will get on great - perhaps if the dil is looking for that mother figure in her life - maybe if she is lacking it otherwise

but who knows - maybe some people are just casual and normal and can get along as well

probably more of the overbearing types can create more friction
