We all 'know' that sugar for kids is a problem (for anyone, really). Does anyone know of any book, or a website maybe, that explains it in all it's brutal detail?

I'm looking for an expose (expozay) kind of thing.

Thanks!

Cool idea! I'll be waiting for responses !
I don't know your kids age but there's books out for kids on sugar casting cavities if you google it I'm sure you'll come across .
I've seen my aunt respond to my 8yr old cousins requests for sugary foods this way: "honey remember what we said? We crave sugar when we are either hungry or tired. If your hungry I can make you xyz, if your tired maybe just play quietly its almost bedtime anyway."
It's important to note she does treat them to an occasionally chocolate . She also offers them healthy meals and fruits.
Kids at that age can understand that real food breaks down slowly giving us good feeling energy while sugar which our body craves as a rescue for hunger/fatigue, will send our energy up too high and then quickly lower than the start off level was ...
Hope this helped. Looking for more ideas too

Thanks for the reply. Sadly, I'm looking for this material to give to my daughter's school.

My kids are 5, 3, and 1, and my 5 yo seems especially sensitive to sugar, with mood swings, etc. Sad Sad

To think that no matter what I do at home, she'll get so much at school/camp is absolutely breaking my heart. I really don't know what to do.

Aww it drives me crazy when kids get junk outside the house! If no one here gives you good sources You should definitely do research for the stuff you need to teach the kids AND the parents . If speak to the school about providing better "treats". 5 year olds can be excited over fruits not just candy. Less sugar more listening to teachers too

You might want to look at a book called Sugar Blues by William Duffy, which is old but still has a lot of good information. For something more up to date you can also look here: http://www.foodforthebrain.org......aspx

The case against sugar for kids is based on two ideas:

1) sugar itself is bad for children, both physically (too much can lead to obesity, diabetes, dental problems, etc) and because it affects their behavior

Sugar also usually comes from foods that are damaging in other ways, too. If kids get sugar from processed snacks like sodas, candy, bamba, popsicles, etc, they are also getting artificial color and flavor additives, preservatives, and in some cases unhealthy fats.

2) kids need certain nutrients to grow and develop; if they eat too many "empty" snacks, they will not eat enough real food to get these nutrients

When I saw that you want to show this to your kids' school, I had to post again. This is something we are really passionate about, so I hope it will help.

Here are a few websites that might be useful:
