She was coughing a bit yesterday and today. But I'm noticing at night it's much more. Is that common?
SHe keeps waking up to cough. I feel terrible for her it's so hard to listen.
It's like a croup cough.
What do you do when you have this?
My dr. said not much to do, is that true?
How long have your kids had this for? And did you do anything for it or just wait it out?
IT came along with some fever too. Does that make any difference?
Any advice please??
Thanks!!

It is normal for a cough to be worse at night. You can try putting a humidifier in the room as it might help a little.
I would raise her head on more than one pillow.
Also, before bedtime, you can try to take her into the bathroom turn on hot water and let the steam clear her out.

Your doctor just said "not much to do" and sent you on your way?!? Someone's doing a lousy job.
Some ideas that may help: use saline drops to thin mucus, swallow spoonfuls of honey, ginger, sleep elevated on a couple of pillows, use a humidifier next to the bed to reduce dry air.
I would want to know what's causing it.

My pediatrician said there's nothing to do when my DS was literally grunting in order to breath and tired during the day since he spent so much of the night coughing.
I took DS to a pulmonologist who prescribed singulair daily and asthma medicine as needed. It's made a world of a difference. This allergy season was so much better than last one.

Thank you all!
I will try these ideas.
Is a humidifier an expensive item to buy? And where do I find it?
And saline drops I suppose I buy at a regular pharmacy?
Also, can I send a kid like this to the babysitter or it's not right (for her/for the other kids/for the babysitter)?
thanks again!

You can get a good humidifier for under $50- get a cool mist one. Saline drops at the pharmacy. It doesn't have to be the kind marketed for babies- you can buy the generic one for adults, its all the same.
Well, before sending your child to the sitter you want to know what you're dealing with. Allergies? Fine, as long as your child is up to it. A cold? Depends on the sitter's policy, and how your child feels. You really need the doctor to clarify what's going on.

If your child is being woken up from coughing and cant sleep talk to your doctor first and ask if you can give cough medicine.
In some situations my doctor will recommend it for nighttime only, and only certain brands.
Coughing is good for you child, but a sleepless night isn't much help.
