My dd is 3 and loves building things. I know she likes magnatiles but they are pretty expensive. Amazon is currently having a sale on magformers making them more reasonably priced. Does anyone know how they compare? Are magformers just as good as magnatiles? Do they keep kids as entertained?

We have both (thanks to a generous Bubby) while my kids play with both I personally think the magforms have more use. There are more options in what you can build. We have the set of 144 pieces

Whoever I asked says they're definitely not as good as the real ones and although they're cheaper than Magna Tiles they're relatively expensive for what you're getting.

We have the original Magna Tiles and have been very happy with them. This Chanuka DHwanted to get more, but with the high price decided to look into alternatives. DH was concerned that most of the spin-offs are not as high quality, and it's not worth the savings to get something that's not as good, and still quite expensive. Then he found Magnetic Stick and Stacks, which is compatible with Magna Tiles, gets phenomenal reviews on Amazon, and to top it off, was on sale for a great price at Toys 2 Discover in Boro Park. So far they've been a hit!

Are the magnets as strong?

We have Magformers and the neodymium magnets used in them and in Magna-Tiles are impressively powerful.

I would say it really depends on your childs type.... we have both as well and personally my kids play with magnatiles every day and hardly take the magformers... even though our magformers is a set with a ferris wheel etc. they go for the free style of making garages and big towers... so if your child likes to build detailed stuff go for magformers with magnatiles its more basic square stuff....
