I am assuming that they had very good consultants, because most of the material is extremely realistic.

A couple of things, though, struck me as off. But perhaps someone has some insight into these points.

That Akiva and Elisheva are on first-name basis right away? Who, in Meah Shearim, is calling his talmid's mother by her first name (assuming, of course, they were not yet introduced by a shadchan)?

Second, what's up with eating breakfast in PJs? Did they daven kevasikin and then go home & take a nap in PJs? Or does somebody not realize that one is supposed to be davening before breakfast?

Third, do ppl in Meah Shearim really go out when they're engaged? I thought they do like chassidim who meet only a couple of times & don't see each other til the wedding.

4thjust curious as I must have missed something. Akiva's friend who is spying on that woman - is she his mother who gave him up for adoption? Or what?

Can you edit the title of your original post? It is Steisel or Shtissel not shlissel. Smile

I watched the first few, it was good.. haven't kept up with it though. Quite depressing, nothing really happy happens and they are just shlepping out the relationship issues.

I watched all the episodes on daily motion , I dont know if one can still do that . season 2 scheduled for sometime 2015 . ps an awesome show despite some of the storyline being somewhat unrealistic . it is the depiction of chariedi/yerushalmi life that makes it so watchable . anyone whos lived there for sometime will know what I mean

K, so I finished watching Simanei Sheayla. Phew. A bit racy for me. Quite a bit. I am not recommending. (There was only one season, right?)

Well, in the middle I stumbled across something & I can't remember what it was called, but it started with a woman walking in a snowy landscape & talking about Olam haZeh & Olam haBa. Possibly someone knows what I mean?

LOVE the show. Waiting so desperately for next season.
Labour akivas friend and the spying... We were thinking the same thing!
And we couldn't believe the ending of the season. I won't say bec it seems not everyone is at that point. But they left it with so many possibilities.

I found the chareidim in Simanei she'ayla not so believable, kind of caricatures. The Rav, the chassidish brother, their beards etc looked so fake, even the brief glimpse of the farmily photo with Eliyahu when he was chareidi, looked like a Purim beard. Shtissel did a far better job - I think they grew the beards & maybe even the peyos.

What is with all these ladies supposedly from Bnei Brak with their collars open, though?
