For Chanuka, my 12 year-old DS wasn't sure what he wanted from my MIL, so she gave him a $100 gift certificate for Amazon. He was very excited at the time, but has been having a difficult time figuring out what to buy with it.
DH has gone through lots of searches and options with him, but DS hasn't picked anything yet. Things we've gotten him in the past from Amazon that he's enjoyed are a remote control helicopter and car, a magic set, a drawing set, computer games, and a rocket. So far he wanted drums (which DH nixed!), and DH suggested a camera or cuff links (which DS nixed).
Any suggestions? It doesn't have to be one large item, and could be 2-3 smaller items.

There's not much you can't buy on Amazon.
If there's nothing he really wants now, tell him to hold onto it. In a month, or two, or six, there will be something that he really wants, and then is the time to use it. If nothing else, it will teach him about saving money for when you need it.
And if whatever he wants can't be purchased on Amazon, you take the card (since there's not much YOU can't buy on Amazon), and let him spend the money elsewhere.
